Two individuals, Lekan Abiola and Timileyin Olaniyan, were arraigned on Friday at the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly impersonating naval officers. Both defendants, aged 28 and without fixed addresses, face charges of conspiracy and unlawfully parading as military personnel.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, the alleged offenses occurred on September 21 at approximately noon at the World Best Hotel in the Muslim area of Ibadan. Igori stated that the defendants were found wearing military camouflage trousers and in possession of Nigerian Navy ID cards.
The prosecutor further revealed that they had AK-47 live ammunition, an electric pistol, knives, and other dangerous weapons, suggesting an intent to commit a felony. These actions allegedly violated Sections 109 and 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Magistrate Mr. Olaolu Olanipekun granted the defendants bail set at N200,000 each, requiring one surety for each defendant with a similar bond. The case has been adjourned until December 4 for further hearing.
