10 Dead in Lagos Auto Crash on Badagry Expressway

-

At least 10 people, including three children and seven adults, were killed in a tragic accident on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway at Abule Osun, Lagos State, late Tuesday night.

The accident, which occurred around 11 p.m., left three others with varying degrees of injuries.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the crash happened when a Toyota Sienna, fully loaded with passengers, slammed into a stationary truck parked on the road.

Investigations revealed that the Siena, which was traveling at high speed, failed to notice the granite-laden truck obstructing half of the roadway.

Oke-Osanyintolu explained, “Upon arrival at the accident scene near Iyana Iba, it was found that a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number BDG 342 FS, traveling from the Eastern region, collided with a parked SHACMAN truck. The truck, carrying granite, had taken up half the road, and the Siena, moving at high speed, crashed into it from behind.”

The victims included three male adults, four female adults, two female children, and one male child.

Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) rescued the injured—a female adult and two children—before the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) arrived. The deceased were later handed over to the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit.

“The damaged Toyota Sienna was recovered with the help of LASEMA’s tow truck and transported to the FRSC station,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.

This fatal accident comes just days after a similar incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where two passengers died after falling off a moving vehicle on Sunday.
