The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has hailed the victory of its governorship candidate in the recent Edo State election, asserting that it confirms President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is a foregone conclusion.
Idris Shuaibu, the Adamawa APC Chairman, stated in an exclusive interview with *The PUNCH* that the Edo election results reflect President Tinubu’s successful policies, which resonated with voters. “The President’s human development initiatives, such as student loans, local government autonomy, and the establishment of a livestock ministry, signal that Nigeria is advancing towards meaningful development,” he remarked.
Shuaibu characterized the Edo governorship poll, held on September 21, as one of the most credible elections organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in recent history. He commended the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for effectively coordinating security during the election, reinforcing the notion that Tinubu has assembled a capable cabinet.
He confidently predicted a smooth victory for the APC in the upcoming Ondo State governorship election and expressed optimism about reclaiming Adamawa State in the 2027 elections, asserting, “The President has shown Nigerians the road to development.”
In contrast, the Adamawa Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the election results, describing the outcome as a “daylight political robbery.” PDP Chairman Abubakar Shehu claimed that their candidate received the most legitimate votes in the election.
During a press conference in Yola, Shehu accused the APC of manipulating the election and undermining the will of the Edo electorate. He alleged, “The daylight political robbery by the APC in Edo State could not have occurred without the complicity of INEC and certain security personnel. This is a disgrace and a serious threat to our emerging democracy.”
Shehu warned that such actions would exacerbate voter apathy and undermine the integrity of the democratic process.
