John Obi Mikel, former Chelsea midfielder, has dismissed suggestions that Victor Osimhen’s wage demands were the reason behind the failed move to Chelsea. Mikel, who has a close relationship with Osimhen, refuted claims that the Napoli forward’s salary expectations were too high for the West London club.
Despite Chelsea’s interest and Osimhen being available for transfer, a deal did not materialize, with the Nigerian striker instead joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan. Mikel, speaking on his Obi One Podcast, clarified that Osimhen’s request was simply for what he believed he deserved and was not indicative of greed. He emphasized that Osimhen’s reputation as a demanding player is unfounded and that he is a professional seeking fair compensation for his talent.
Osimhen is now set to debut for Galatasaray against Rizespor, aiming to contribute to the team’s defense of their Super Lig title.
