At its first meeting under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, the Council of State expressed appreciation to Nigerians for standing firm against attempts to unconstitutionally change the government during the #EndBadGovernance protests.
The council members, who also voiced their support for President Tinubu, included former President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Muhammadu Buhari, who attended in person, while former Heads of State General Yakubu Gowon and General Abdulsalami Abubakar participated virtually. Governors from Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom states were also present.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, shared insights from the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, regarding the events surrounding the recent protests. Ribadu described the protests as a movement aimed at forcibly changing the regime, which was successfully resisted by the Nigerian populace. He emphasized the importance of maintaining constitutional methods for any change in government and reassured that the nation’s security agencies are prepared to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and democratic values.
Alake also reported that seven ministers provided updates on the progress and challenges within their respective ministries, highlighting efforts aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda’s focus on economic diversification.
Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, noted that after thorough discussions, the members unanimously passed a vote of confidence in President Tinubu.
Wale Edun, the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, presented optimistic economic data, emphasizing growth, stabilization in the exchange rate, and promising opportunities for investment and expansion, especially in the export and service sectors.
President Tinubu is set to embark on a three-day official visit to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of oil, gas, and security, with the country’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
