Boboye Sets his Sights on the NPFL Title

-

Kennedy Boboye, who recently led Sunshine Stars to avoid relegation in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), has now set his sights on winning the league title in the upcoming 2024/25 season. Boboye, a seasoned coach with two NPFL titles under his belt from his time with Plateau United (2017) and Akwa United (2021), returned to Sunshine Stars during the second half of the last season. His leadership turned the club’s fortunes around, securing a 10th place finish with 52 points.

Currently, the team is competing in the Governor Douye Diri Pre-Season tournament in Bayelsa, where they started strong with a 1-0 victory over Bayelsa United. The winning goal came in the 35th minute from one of their new signings, Ismail Ayodele, who was a constant threat throughout the match.

After the game, Boboye expressed his confidence in the team’s potential, emphasizing that the pre-season tournament is being used to assess and refine their strategy. He made it clear that the team’s goal is to win the NPFL title, though he acknowledged that they are still in the early stages of preparation. With more time together, Boboye believes Sunshine Stars will improve and be ready to challenge for the championship.

Boboye’s return to Sunshine Stars is significant, as he previously led the team to one of their best finishes in recent history, securing sixth place in the 2014/15 season. His current mission is to bring back the club’s glory days, reminiscent of their successful campaigns in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup between 2011 and 2012.
