The Federal Government has responded to calls for a regime change, advising that such demands should be pursued through the ballot box in the 2027 presidential election.
Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, made this statement on Tuesday during a briefing with State House correspondents following the inaugural Council of State meeting under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Alake described the recent hunger protests as an attempt to forcefully change the government, which was met with resistance. He expressed gratitude to Nigerians for upholding constitutional order, emphasizing that any dissatisfaction with the current administration should be addressed through the electoral process.
He stated, “If anyone is unhappy with the government or the current administration, the proper course of action is to wait for the next election and vote accordingly.”
The National Security Adviser also provided an update on the country’s security situation, reassuring the Council of State that security forces are committed to protecting Nigeria’s democracy and territorial integrity.
Alake added that the Council of State also heard presentations from seven ministers, highlighting progress in various sectors of the economy, with a focus on economic diversification.
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, who chairs the Governor’s Forum, noted that the council expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. Following the Council of State meeting, the governors held an executive session with the President, during which they also passed a vote of confidence in him. AbdulRazaq emphasized that the nation is “on the right track” and wished the President continued success.
