The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has raised an alarm over the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes and land fraud in the South East region. Aliyu Naibi, the agency’s Enugu Zonal Commander, addressed journalists during an anti-corruption road walk in Enugu, highlighting the detrimental impact of land fraud on investments and announcing measures taken by the EFCC to combat the issue.
Naibi acknowledged the challenges posed by people using land to defraud others and the surge in cybercrimes, particularly involving youth. He called on stakeholders, including community leaders, religious figures, and traditional rulers, to intervene and address these issues, emphasizing the need for collective action to curb economic sabotage and attract investors to the region.
During the road walk, organized to commemorate the International Anti-Corruption Day, Naibi stressed the importance of creating awareness about the negative effects of corruption. He delivered a message from the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, urging anti-corruption stakeholders to unite and support the commission’s efforts in breaking the chain of corruption.
Naibi outlined the EFCC’s commitment to collaboration with local and foreign law enforcement agencies, professionalism, and strict adherence to the rule of law. He emphasized that increased professionalism and adherence to the rule of law are essential for restoring investors’ confidence, fostering economic growth, and improving Nigeria’s international image.
In his leadership role, Naibi vowed to prioritize creating a conducive environment for job creation, opening up investment space across the country, and improving the nation’s international standing. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for arbitrariness and called on EFCC operatives to be diligent and resourceful in their assigned tasks, promising to address any infractions traceable to unethical practices.
