Abuja — A new political movement, Team New Nigeria (TNN), has declared its intention to usher in a new leadership in the 2027 elections, citing the current All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government’s “reckless economic policies” as a threat to the nation’s stability.
At a press conference in Abuja, TNN President Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai stated that the group is committed to rescuing Nigeria from economic hardship and governance failures. According to him, the youth increasingly see no future in the country and are seeking ways to leave.
“Our middle class is on the verge of extinction due to reckless economic policies. The average young Nigerian today sees no future here and would take any opportunity to flee,” Farakwai said.
TNN, which has been seeking registration as a political party since last year, promised to establish a government rooted in democratic ideals. It ruled out joining any coalition to unseat the ruling party, arguing that Nigeria lacks a viable opposition.
The movement claims to have registered over 43 million members across the 774 local government areas, 37 states (including the FCT), and the six geopolitical zones. Despite this, Farakwai accused state institutions of acting in favor of the ruling APC, questioning the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) delay in granting the group official party status.
Farakwai called on Nigerians to participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise, emphasizing the need for active engagement to reshape the country’s political landscape. He described TNN as a national rejuvenation movement aimed at uniting Nigerians and driving fundamental political, social, and economic change.
As the 2027 elections approach, TNN’s emergence signals a growing demand for political alternatives amid rising economic concerns and governance challenges.
