Zamfara NMA Calls on Federal Government to Intensify Efforts Against Banditry

-

The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has renewed its call for urgent intervention from the Federal Government to address the escalating security challenges in the region. Dr. Mohammed Murtala, Vice Chairman of the Zamfara NMA, highlighted the dire impact of insecurity on the state’s health sector during a press briefing in Gusau.

Dr. Murtala appealed to the Zamfara State Government to increase funding for healthcare and improve working conditions for health workers, stressing the association’s commitment to tackling the cholera and diphtheria outbreaks plaguing the state. He noted that these efforts would be spotlighted during the association’s 2024 Scientific Conference, marking the Physician Week.

Acknowledging the state governor’s strides in upgrading healthcare infrastructure, including improvements to general hospitals and the remodeling of the Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, the NMA encouraged further collaborative measures to strengthen responses to infectious diseases and enhance health services across Zamfara.

The association emphasized that a secure environment is essential for effective healthcare delivery and urged both federal and state governments to intensify efforts to curb the insecurity affecting the state.
