WMO Concludes Re-accreditation of NiMet’s Training School in Lagos

-

The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) has successfully completed a re-accreditation review of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Oshodi, Lagos. Led by Dr. Paul Bugeac, Coordinator of Learning and Development at WMO, the Geneva-based team assessed improvements made at the facility, particularly commending NiMet for enhanced facilities, dedicated staff, and infrastructure upgrades, including solar-powered buildings for uninterrupted power.

Dr. Bugeac expressed satisfaction with the RTC’s transformation, noting that prior issues had been addressed with impressive dedication and innovation. He also praised Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the WMO, Prof. Charles Anosike, and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for their support.

Prof. Anosike confirmed that the re-accreditation process only awaits final documentation and assured that the RTC would continue to play a critical role in meteorological education and safety protocols in Nigeria. The WMO’s final report on the re-accreditation is expected to be submitted by June 2025.
