Ukraine Downs 71 Russian Attack Drones in Major Overnight Offensive

-

In a significant development, Ukraine announced on Saturday that it successfully downed 71 Russian attack drones overnight, marking the largest assault on the capital since the beginning of the invasion.

Kyiv’s city administration reported five injuries, including an 11-year-old child, as a result of the attack.

The Ukrainian air force took to social media to confirm the destruction of 71 Shahed 131/136 attack UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), with the majority eliminated in the Kyiv region.

The air alert in the city extended for six hours, causing falling drone debris that ignited fires and inflicted damage on structures throughout the capital, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

Expressing concern, Klitschko stated, “The enemy continues the terror.”

This assault coincided with Ukraine observing Holodomor, the remembrance of the 1930s famine that resulted in millions of deaths under Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took to social media to highlight the timing, stating, “More than 70 Shaheds on the night of the Holodomor Remembrance Day… The Russian leadership is proud of the fact that it can kill.”
