Captain of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, confirmed on Monday that the team is returning to Nigeria following delays at Libya’s Al Abaq Airport. The Super Eagles had arrived in Libya for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match but were stranded due to the treatment they received from local authorities.
Troost-Ekong shared an update on his X account, stating that the team’s plane was being fueled and they would soon depart for Nigeria. He highlighted the role of social media in resolving the issue and expressed disappointment over the situation, stating that Nigeria would never treat visiting teams in the same manner.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has also sent a formal protest to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the incident. Despite the initial disruption, the Super Eagles plan to return to action soon.
