The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) is set to host a five-day exhibition in November, aimed at showcasing groundbreaking inventions, innovations, and technologies developed by researchers and scholars over the years. The event will take place in Abuja and is designed to highlight practical research outcomes that have the potential for manufacturing and scalability.
During a press conference in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, emphasized that the exhibition is strategically planned to inspire Nigerians, particularly the youth, to explore and utilize these technologies. The goal is to encourage the establishment of viable enterprises, thereby generating jobs, creating wealth, and enhancing the Nigerian economy.
Prof. Mamman also announced the inauguration of a TETFund committee tasked with compiling a comprehensive inventory of research outputs from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research institutes. The committee will screen and select technologies that have the potential to make an immediate impact on the national economy for display at the exhibition.
The selected technologies will be grouped into sectors to attract potential investors and entrepreneurs. The committee will also collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including business support organizations, funding bodies, and intellectual property management experts, to ensure the fair’s success. Additionally, the committee will provide guidance and information to the public to promote widespread participation and maximize the event’s impact.
TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, expressed his gratitude to the Minister for organizing the exhibition, recognizing it as a significant effort to harness the nation’s potential in innovation and creativity. Echono emphasized that the exhibition is open to all Nigerians, including research institutes, private inventors, and digital creators. He encouraged anyone with innovations that could lead to job creation, product development, or the betterment of society to participate and showcase their work to the world.
