Taraba State Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Alkali has called on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to take urgent action to repair the collapsed Namnai bridge on the Jalingo/Wukari Federal Highway.
Alkali made this appeal during a courtesy visit from the NEDC management to his office in Jalingo. He highlighted the bridge’s crucial role in connecting the North East to the Southern parts of Nigeria and emphasized the need for prompt intervention due to its strategic importance.
The Deputy Governor also advised the NEDC to consult with the state government prior to allocating projects, noting that state officials can better assess local needs and project priorities. He commended the NEDC for its substantial infrastructure contributions to the state but urged the commission to continue its support for the people of Taraba.
Earlier, Alhaji Goni Alkali, Managing Director of the NEDC, explained that the commission’s visit was part of an oversight effort to inspect ongoing projects in the state. He assured that the NEDC would provide comprehensive updates on project completion and handover processes to the state government.
The Namnai bridge, which links Wukari and Jalingo, collapsed recently due to severe flooding in the area.
