Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka revealed on Sunday that he plans to withhold his observations on President Bola Tinubu’s administration until one year into his tenure, in May 2024. Soyinka sees this one-year delay as a personal policy, providing the President ample time to address any challenges.
During a courtesy visit to the President in Lagos, Soyinka explained, “When you see me next year, ask the same question again and listen to my answer.” He emphasized the need for leaders to have time to “make up” for lost grounds during the initial phase of their tenure.
Soyinka, calling the visit “embarrassing,” disclosed that he presented a seven-point agenda during his discussion with the President, the details of which he opted not to reveal. The academician recounted his last meeting with the President five years ago when he urged both Tinubu and Atiku not to run for office, emphasizing the need for young people to take leadership roles.
Additionally, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti, during his visit to Tinubu, encouraged Nigerians to be patient with the economic reforms, stating that sustained efforts would lead to prosperity. He commended Tinubu’s courageous policies, including changes in exchange rates and the removal of subsidies, acknowledging the associated challenges but expressing optimism about the long-term positive impact.
