Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has praised Bruno Labbadia, the new head coach of the Nigerian national team, ahead of their upcoming clash. Rohr, who now manages the Benin national team, will face off against Labbadia in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on September 7 in Uyo.
Rohr, a fellow German, expressed his support for Labbadia’s coaching abilities but made it clear that his allegiance will lie with Benin during their match. “I wish him all the best, but not against us,” Rohr stated, emphasizing his competitive spirit.
He described Labbadia as a highly skilled coach and expressed hope that he will be well-supported by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Nigerian fans. Rohr acknowledged Labbadia’s experience in the Bundesliga and wished him success in adapting to the Nigerian football environment.
The Benin team, known as the Cheetahs, will come into the match with confidence after securing their first-ever victory over Nigeria in June in Abidjan. The encounter promises to be a thrilling contest between the two German coaches.
