Former presidential spokesman Garba Shehu has clarified that former President Muhammadu Buhari is not the owner of the Abuja land recently revoked by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In a statement titled “Nothing Like Loss of Buhari Land in Abuja,” Shehu described the matter as a case of misinformation and bureaucratic errors.
Reports on Thursday indicated that Wike had revoked several lands tied to prominent figures, including the Buhari Trust Fund, ex-Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and over 760 others.
Addressing the reports, Shehu stated, “The land in question does not belong to Buhari personally but is registered under the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation. The foundation was established lawfully by well-meaning individuals with the support of many good-hearted persons.”
Shehu further revealed that during Buhari’s tenure, he declined an invitation to acquire land in Abuja, prioritizing those without land over himself. “The former president does own a plot of land in Abuja. However, when invited to fill out forms for additional land during his presidency, he returned the form unfilled, stating that priority should go to those without land.”
The clarification aims to dispel the widespread speculation surrounding Buhari’s involvement in the revoked properties. The incident underscores the importance of accurate reporting and clarity in governance matters.
