Governor-elect Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reached out to candidates from other political parties, inviting them to join forces in building “a New Edo of our dreams.” This appeal followed his receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on September 24, 2024.
Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the Edo State governorship election, securing 291,667 votes. His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,566 votes.
In his message to the people of Edo, Okpebholo emphasized his commitment, alongside his deputy Dennis Idahosa, to meet the aspirations of citizens for an Edo State characterized by equal opportunities and development. He expressed readiness to implement the promises made during their campaign.
While congratulating his opponents for their sportsmanship throughout the electoral process, he acknowledged the voices of the people, stating that they are the true victors in this election.
The incumbent Senator representing Edo Central expressed gratitude for the mandate given to him, stating, “With the mandate of the people of the State, the journey to a New Edo has started.”
Okpebholo also thanked his supporters, the APC members in Edo, and President Bola Tinubu for their unwavering support of true democracy. He extended special appreciation to APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullai Umar Ganduje and the Progressive Governors, led by Imo State Governor Dr. Hope Uzodinma.
He acknowledged the contributions of political leaders across Edo State’s three senatorial districts and expressed deep gratitude to royal fathers for their wisdom, prayers, and guidance, particularly mentioning the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II.
