Oil Marketers Urge FG to Prevent Dangote Refinery Monopoly

-

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketer’s Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has called on the Federal Government to address concerns over a potential monopoly by Dangote Refinery in the supply of diesel and other products. This follows claims by Dangote Industries’ Vice President, Devakumar Edwin, that oil marketers had reported the refinery for offering lower-priced diesel, which hurt their businesses.

DAPPMAN, however, denied this allegation, stating that their concerns are focused on ensuring fair competition and preventing the refinery from dominating the market. The association expressed worry that limiting marketers to sourcing products solely from Dangote Refinery could stifle competition and increase prices for consumers, urging the government to allow market forces to operate freely in the petroleum sector.

They further recommended that restrictions on product sourcing be lifted until other refineries, such as Port Harcourt and Warri, are fully rehabilitated.
