Residents of Atan and Lusada communities in the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State are expressing their discontent over the sluggish progress of road reconstruction initiated by the state government. They highlight the adverse impact of the unfinished construction, emphasizing the hardship it has imposed on them.
In conversations with PUNCH Online on Sunday, the residents highlighted how the poor state of the road has disrupted their daily movements, affected their health, and taken a toll on their businesses. The road connects Ogun and Lagos State via the Agbara Industrial Area route and is home to one of the state-owned tertiary institutions.
Adekunle Kabir, a resident, deplored the neglect of the road, expressing frustration with the government’s seemingly indifferent attitude toward the community’s plight. He remarked, “Every day on this road is like going through hell. All roads leading to our area are bad. From Sango to Agbara to Owode, the roads are not good at all.”
A commercial motorcyclist known as Rahman, operating in the Atan to Lusada areas, emphasized the negative impact of the road on his health and the rapid wear and tear of his motorcycle. He described the road conditions as filled with potholes and mud, causing body pains after work.
Iya Ibeji, a trader in the Lusada community, highlighted the adverse effects of the road on business activities. She urged the government to accelerate the completion of the road, emphasizing its potential to boost commerce and generate revenue for the state.
Efforts to obtain a response from the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to messages and calls at the time of filing this report.
