NUC approves Cross River University of Education, Entrepreneurship

-

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship, making it the 67th state university in Nigeria.

NUC Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Ribadu, announced the approval on Tuesday in Abuja while presenting the recognition letter to Governor Bassey Otu, who was represented by Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Secretary to the State Government.

Ribadu described the approval as a significant milestone for Cross River State, aimed at fostering innovation, educational development, and entrepreneurship. He noted that the university would focus on quality education and skill acquisition, equipping students for success in the modern economy.

He emphasized that the university’s approval aligns with the commission’s mandate to regulate and maintain quality assurance in Nigeria’s university system. He added that Cross River State has a rich and evolving higher education landscape, with institutions that foster academic excellence, research, and community development.

He highlighted that the state is currently home to six universities, including one federal, one state, and four private institutions, along with other tertiary education centers. The establishment of a second state-owned university, he added, reaffirms the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education.

As stakeholders celebrate this achievement, he urged them to collaborate in ensuring the university thrives and upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, research excellence, and governance. He also pledged the NUC’s support and guidance to help the university achieve its full potential.

In his response, Governor Bassey Otu described the approval as a historic moment for education in Cross River State. He stated that the state had worked tirelessly for this milestone and expressed gratitude for the NUC’s guidance and support.

Otu expressed confidence that the university would help address unemployment in the state by producing entrepreneurial graduates equipped with relevant skills. He affirmed the state’s readiness by presenting the academic briefs, master plan, and university law to the NUC.

The establishment of the Cross River State University of Education and Entrepreneurship marks a new chapter in the state’s educational development, with hopes of shaping future leaders and innovators.
