Nnamdi Kanu’s Ex-Lawyer Celebrates Discharge of 50 IPOB Members, Calls it a ‘Christmas Gift’

-

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the former lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has celebrated the discharge of 50 suspected IPOB members by an Abuja Federal High Court, calling it a “Christmas gift.”

The suspects, who had been arrested by Nigerian security forces in Anambra State in December 2023, were on their way to a burial ceremony when they were detained. They were later charged with terrorism. However, the court ruled on November 29, 2024, that the prosecution failed to make a case, leading to their discharge and acquittal.

Ejiofor praised the ruling, expressing gratitude to God for the victory. He described the judgment as well-considered and delivered by Hon. Justice J.K. Omotosho, who upheld their “No Case” submission. He also acknowledged the efforts of his legal team, and emphasized that the defense was conducted pro bono, without any financial compensation from the defendants’ families.

The lawyer further called on IPOB supporters to remain law-abiding and avoid violent teachings, reaffirming his commitment to securing the freedom of innocent Biafrans in detention.
