In alignment with its corporate social responsibility strategy, LG Electronics has made a significant impact in the Oriba community of Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State, by launching a solar-powered borehole and installing streetlights.
This initiative underscores LG’s commitment to sustainable development and enhancing community well-being. By providing clean water access and boosting security through lighting, LG is playing a crucial role in shaping a healthier and brighter future for the residents of Oriba.
During the inauguration, LG Electronics Nigeria’s Managing Director, represented by Marketing Manager Mr. Paul Mba, emphasized the company’s dedication to giving back to communities, particularly where access to potable water is a challenge.
“At LG, we prioritize empowering communities through sustainable projects. Our contribution of solar-powered boreholes and streetlights to Oriba is a testament to our mission to improve lives. We believe these contributions will yield immediate benefits and drive long-term growth and development in the community,” Mba stated.
He further explained that the project, driven by a needs assessment and stakeholder consultations, includes the installation of five water points powered by six 210-watt solar panels and 10 solar-powered streetlights, each with 800-watt capacity, placed strategically to illuminate the community.
Expressing the community’s appreciation, Aare Adesegun Hassan, a local leader, conveyed deep gratitude: “LG Electronics’ generosity has transformed our community. The streetlights will enhance safety and security, and the borehole ensures our access to clean water. These improvements will have a lasting impact on our lives.”
Chief S.B. Olukolu, Patron of the Oriba Youth Movement, echoed these sentiments, celebrating the project as a symbol of progress and a brighter future for Oriba. “Access to clean water is vital, and this borehole will significantly improve the health and well-being of our people, especially easing the burden on women and children,” he said.
The inauguration of the borehole and streetlights was marked by vibrant celebrations from Oriba’s youth, who sang and danced in appreciation of the life-changing initiative.
