The crisis within the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified as the Austin Agada-led state executive committee has nominated 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship candidates for the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 5.
According to a statement from the APC state chairman’s media office in Abuja, the primary elections were conducted mostly through consensus and affirmation across the 23 local government areas of the state last Saturday.
Samuel Atsuku, who participated in the primaries in Tarka Local Government Area, credited the success of the nomination process to the dedication of local party stakeholders. He expressed gratitude to the party members for their peaceful conduct during the exercise and congratulated Koryave Isaac Aondaver, the chairmanship candidate for Tarka Local Government, along with the newly nominated councillors.
In Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Simon Aluor, another participant, praised the APC for its orderly and peaceful primaries and thanked the party faithful for their continued trust. Similarly, Basil Yina emerged as the party’s flag-bearer in Gboko after a smooth nomination process.
In Otukpo, the party members unanimously affirmed Oleho Augustine as their chairmanship candidate, demonstrating strong support for his candidacy.
Lazarus Asema, the APC chairman in Guma Local Government, described the nomination process as peaceful and commended the state leadership for their effective organization and management of the primaries.
Abua Yaji and Fidelis Audu, in separate media interactions, expressed satisfaction with the process and praised the efforts of local stakeholders in ensuring a successful primary election.
The nomination of candidates amidst ongoing internal disputes within the APC highlights the current challenges faced by the party in Benue State as it prepares for the forthcoming local government elections.
