A member of the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos, has strongly condemned the killing of 12 people in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State by suspected herders.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, affected five communities and left several others injured. Among the hardest-hit areas was Ruwi village, where all 12 deaths were recorded.
Bagos, who represents Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to protect lives and property in Plateau and other troubled areas across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dafwam Yaks, the lawmaker described the killings as “senseless” and urged for urgent legislative action to enhance security architecture nationwide.
He further appealed to the National Assembly to expedite the passage of bills that seek to establish state police. According to Bagos, decentralising the nation’s security system through state policing would strengthen local responses to such violent attacks.
“His thoughts are with the families affected by this senseless loss, which has left lasting scars on the community and beyond,” the statement read.
The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents in Plateau State, raising renewed concerns about the growing insecurity in parts of Nigeria’s Middle Belt.
