The South West Initiative (SWI) has hailed Governor Babatunde Sanwo-Olu for his laudable achievements, including the massive commissioning of projects in the state and the rehabilitation of over 4,000 classrooms in public primary and secondary schools.
The group said the governor has made a huge difference in governance, describing Sanwo-Olu as a pacesetter and one who has raised the bar of democratic leadership to an admirable height.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the Director General of the group, Razaq Olokooba, stated that Lagosians have never been short-changed by the headship of the state since Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu became the governor and that Governor Sanwo-Olu is another shining example for other governors to emulate.
Olokooba, however, hailed the Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), Hakeem Smith for his efforts in ensuring the aspirations of the Sanwo-Olu-led administration is achieved, while urging Lagosians to take advantage of the recently completed projects.
Smith had on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja disclosed that over 4,000 classrooms in Lagos State public primary and secondary schools have been rehabilitated during a media chat chronicling the achievements of SCRPS, under the Governor Sanwo-Olu-led administration.
The SCRPS chairman, who intimated Lagos residents about the achievements of SCRPS under the Sanwo-Olu-led government, said that SCRPS was re-inaugurated in November 4, 2019, by the governor to address the decay in infrastructure in Lagos public schools.
He noted that a few months after assumption of office, and seeing the state of the schools’ infrastructure, Governor Sanwo-Olu re-inaugurated SCPPS to continue the public school’s infrastructural renewal drive with a clear terms of reference: Rehabilitation of dilapidated structures in Lagos public schools; construction of new classroom blocks where there are shortfalls of classrooms in the public schools; construction of recreational facilities in schools with land availability; and provision of principals, teachers and students’ furniture.
According to him, “Since the inauguration, SCRPS has been able to rehabilitate 386 blocks of classrooms in both primary and secondary schools in Lagos State.” This rehabilitation work, according to him, “is spread across the six education districts in the state. “About 1,290 classroom blocks have been constructed across the six education districts of the state, while a lot of work is currently ongoing.”
Some of the projects include: Keme Balogun Junior and Senior College, Ibeshe Ikorodu; Ajegunle Junior High School, Owode-Onirin, Kosofe; Odogunyan Junior Grammar School, Ikorodu; Euba Junior High School, Mushin Lagos; St. Luke Junior Grammar School, Bariga; Mainland Junior Secondary School, Fadeyi; State Junior High School, Ibereko Badagry; Thogli Community Grammar School, Badagryl Ipara Junior College, Majiyagbe, Badagry; Awori Junior College, Ojo; Government Junior College, Ketu Epe; Lekki Community Senior Secondary School, Ibeju-Lekki; Idata-Ilagbo Community Senior School, Idata Ibeju Lekki; United Christian Secondary School, Apapa; Ilupeju Community Grammar School, Oshodi; Ipaja Junior Grammar School, Ipaja, among others.
