Dr. Emeka Kalu, Director General of Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is the only politician capable of defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election. His comments came in response to a recent statement by Olabode George, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who suggested that Atiku should wait until 2031 before running for president.
In a statement released on Thursday, Kalu defended Atiku, asserting that his extensive experience and nationwide connections make him uniquely qualified to lead Nigeria. Kalu criticized those opposing Atiku, accusing them of favoring inexperienced candidates for personal gain.
Kalu remarked, “As the 2027 general elections approach, Atiku Abubakar stands out as the leader with the experience necessary to address Nigeria’s challenges, rejuvenate the faltering economy, and restore national excellence. The current administration’s failures over the past nine years make it clear that we need a president who represents national unity and competence.”
He added, “Leadership requires capacity, wisdom, and sagacity. The individuals attacking Atiku with ethnic biases and media smear campaigns are the real threats to our country. They seek to install ineffectual leaders for their own benefit.”
Kalu expressed confidence that under Atiku’s leadership, Nigeria would see significant advancements in economic development, infrastructure, and security. He described Atiku as a “round peg in a round hole,” whose commitment to reforming Nigeria’s socio-political and economic systems is unwavering.
He called on Nigerians to support Atiku in the 2027 election, emphasizing that his presidency would bring much-needed transformation to the country.
