Gunmen Reportedly Abduct Students in Attack on Nasarawa Varsity

-

In the early hours of Thursday, unknown gunmen allegedly abducted 10 students from the Federal University of Lafia. The incident took place in the Gandu community, approximately two kilometers from the university.

According to an anonymous resident, the gunmen invaded the students’ community opposite the permanent site of the university around 2 am, firing shots into the air. This prompted the students to flee for safety. The resident emotionally described the criminal operation, which lasted about two hours.

Confirming the incident, Abubakar Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, stated that it was too early to determine the exact number of abducted students as those affected reside off-campus.

In response to the incident, other students staged a peaceful protest, demanding an end to the frequent kidnappings of their colleagues. The Federal University of Lafia has experienced several abductions in recent times, despite efforts by the state government and security agencies to prevent further attacks.

When contacted, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, mentioned that details of the kidnapping were still sketchy. The command is struggling to authenticate the identity of the victims and gather more information on the incident.”
