Sven-Goran Eriksson, the renowned Swedish football manager, passed away on Monday after a long battle with terminal pancreatic cancer. Eriksson, who was 76 years old, had announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with the illness and had a year to live in a “best-case scenario.”
Eriksson’s illustrious career in football management spanned several countries and included notable stints with England, Manchester City, and Leicester City. He was also in line to manage Nigeria’s Super Eagles for the 2010 World Cup, but his compatriot Lars Lagerbäck eventually took the role.
As England’s manager, Eriksson led the national team through 67 matches, including a goalless draw against Nigeria in the 2002 World Cup. His legacy in the football world is marked by his contributions across eight different countries, solidifying his reputation as one of the sport’s respected figures.
