Fisayo Soyombo Arrested Over Alleged Oil Theft – Nigerian Army

-

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo in connection with oil theft in the Niger Delta. In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Division, the military revealed that Soyombo was apprehended during a targeted operation at an illegal oil bunkering site.

The operation, which followed intelligence reports, led to the arrest of Soyombo alongside other individuals suspected of involvement in pipeline vandalism and oil theft. While the army did not clarify whether the journalist is the same Fisayo Soyombo known for investigative reporting, they stressed that his arrest was related to the criminal activities of oil thieves in the region.

The suspects, including Soyombo, are undergoing preliminary investigations to determine their level of involvement in the illicit activities. The military also reiterated its commitment to combating illegal oil bunkering, an issue they say has been detrimental to the nation’s oil and gas production.

The Army urged the media to verify their information before publishing, to ensure the accuracy of reports regarding Soyombo’s arrest and the ongoing investigation.
