The Ex-Service Men and Family Welfare Association of Nigeria held a peaceful protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on Wednesday, demanding the payment of their pension arrears and other entitlements.
Anthony Agbas, the president of the association, expressed the financial hardship military pensioners have faced over the years, noting that despite approval for the funds, no payments have been made. The ex-servicemen are calling for the payment of their palliatives and salary increments, which include:
– Palliatives and their arrears from October 2023 to November 2024
– A 20-28% salary increment and its arrears from January to November
– A N32,000 flat rate and its arrears from July to November
– National Minimum Wage increment and arrears from July to November
The Ministry of Finance acknowledged the protesters’ requests, stating that the payments have been approved and are being processed.
