Chukwueze Set to Depart AC Milan in January

-

Super Eagles star Samuel Chukwueze is reportedly poised to leave AC Milan during the January transfer window. The winger is attracting interest from Atletico Madrid, along with Premier League clubs West Ham and Aston Villa.

Chukwueze joined Milan from Villarreal in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €20 million, including substantial bonuses, marking him as the club’s most expensive signing in a window that welcomed 10 new players. However, he has struggled to find his form at the San Siro, making just 39 appearances and contributing three goals and three assists since his arrival.

The 25-year-old has played a mere 175 minutes out of a possible 540 across six Serie A matches this season. Milan manager Paulo Fonseca recently noted Chukwueze’s lack of fit within the team, suggesting he explore other options.

“He had a very good preseason against big teams, but he hasn’t performed as well in the league,” Fonseca said. “It’s not a problem of quality but of confidence. He needs to gain confidence and make the right movements in Serie A.”

Following Fonseca’s comments, reports from Italian outlet Les-transferts indicated that Chukwueze might be heading back to Spain, with Atletico Madrid keen on securing his services. His contract runs until June 2028, and a move in January appears increasingly likely.

Chukwueze is currently valued at €20 million in the transfer market and is also on the radar of West Ham and Aston Villa.
