Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, narrowly escaped an attack on his convoy by suspected Boko Haram fighters along the Jakana-Mainok expressway in Borno State. The ambush occurred after the governor’s convoy escorted him to a ceremony in Maiduguri. Following the event, the security team, without the governor, returned to Yobe. The attackers targeted the convoy, resulting in the death of one policeman and injuries to six others. Governor Buni’s security details successfully repelled the ambush, and those injured are reportedly responding to treatment. The terrorists aimed at military and police vehicles to obtain weapons and ammunition, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. The security operatives safely returned to Damaturu, Yobe’s capital, while the wounded personnel received medical attention.
