Azura Power West Africa is set to unveil a 240-kilowatt solar car park at the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) on Tuesday, in an initiative aligned with Nigeria’s energy transition and President Bola Tinubu’s power sector reforms. The project will be inaugurated by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
The solar car park is part of Azura’s “Power to Change” program, which exemplifies the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Murtala Bello, Head of Corporate Affairs at Azura, explained that the initiative is a significant contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and will enhance the learning experience for approximately 2,650 engineering students at UNN.
With the solar installation projected to generate over 400,000 kWh of clean energy annually, it will cover 75% of the faculty’s energy needs. Bello also emphasized that the project will save the university about N150 million annually on energy costs, while contributing to Nigeria’s net-zero ambitions. The project, which cost N900 million, represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.
