The Diocesan Bishop of Ijesa North Anglican Diocese, Rev. Isaac Oluyamo, has called on both the Federal and State Governments to enhance welfare packages for teachers. Speaking at a special event organized for educators in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, Oluyamo emphasized the necessity of car and housing loans to support teachers in their vital roles.
In a statement issued from Osogbo, he stated, “Government at all levels should create schemes to ensure better working and living conditions for teachers.” He proposed that these schemes include loans for purchasing vehicles and building homes, along with special allowances to recognize teachers’ contributions to society.
Oluyamo underlined the importance of teachers in shaping future leaders, asserting that they must be provided with the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively. “Teachers play a major role in shaping the lives of the younger generation, molding them into ideal minds that will provide the right leadership,” he noted.
He also highlighted the need for timely promotions and a supportive work environment, stating, “Teachers must have stable minds to perform their duties effectively. Whatever will enable them to discharge their duties, the government must provide, as the wellbeing of the people remains a primary responsibility of government at all levels.”
Encouraging teachers to remain dedicated to their profession, Oluyamo urged them to serve with integrity and the fear of God, emphasizing their role in training Nigeria’s future leaders. He called for a commitment to providing the best education possible, reinforcing the impact that teachers have on society.
