Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has pledged to spearhead an infrastructural revolution in his homeland, emphasizing his commitment to revitalizing the state’s development landscape. During his campaign, he highlighted the stagnation of infrastructural and socio-economic progress since the tenure of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole ended in 2016. Okpebholo assured citizens of his dedication to resuming and advancing development initiatives to benefit the people of Edo State.
Upon assuming office, Governor Okpebholo unveiled a five-point agenda focusing on security, infrastructure, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education. He emphasized the importance of good governance and improved social services, rejecting the reliance on external consultants in governance. Okpebholo stated, “My administration is set to make a huge difference in governance. We aim to take up this challenge responsibly because things cannot remain the way they are.”
Demonstrating his commitment to education, the governor initiated the reconstruction and renovation of structures in 100 schools across the state to mark his 100 days in office. This effort aims to provide conducive learning environments for students and underscores his dedication to the education sector.
Governor Okpebholo’s administration has also prioritized road development, allocating N162 billion to this sector in the 2025 budget. This allocation reflects his focus on infrastructural development, with significant funds also directed towards agriculture, health, and education.
In addressing security concerns, the governor has taken steps to enhance the state’s security architecture, including the procurement of new vehicles to empower security agencies. These measures aim to create a safer environment conducive to economic growth and development.
