The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal accident on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, resulting in one death and two injuries. The incident occurred along Cele Expressway, inward Oshodi, involving a fully-laden 40-foot containerized articulated truck, five commercial buses, and two private vehicles—a Camry and a Sienna bus.
According to Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, the accident was caused by the articulated truck experiencing brake failure while traveling at excessive speed. This led to the dislodgement of its containers, which collapsed onto the other vehicles, causing significant damage and casualties. A pedestrian was killed, and two others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Emergency responders, including LASTMA officers, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority Response Unit, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, swiftly managed the situation. The injured were transported by LASAMBUS to the General Hospital in Isolo for treatment. Security personnel from the Ijesha-Tedo Police Division were also present to maintain order.
Mr. Bakare-Oki extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a swift recovery. He urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and traffic laws to prevent such tragedies.
