Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has assured families of the 16 hunters slain in Uromi, Edo, that they will receive compensation. The hunters were allegedly murdered by a vigilante group while traveling to Kano.
Okpebholo made the pledge during a condolence visit to the victims’ families in Torankawa, Kano State, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf.
“We are making arrangements to provide compensation to all the families affected by this incident,” Okpebholo said. He also commended the people of Kano for maintaining peace despite the tragic event.
“I appreciate the good people of Kano and the entire North for not taking the law into their own hands and carrying out reprisal attacks,” he added.
The Edo governor assured the bereaved families that justice would be served, confirming that 14 suspects had been arrested in connection with the killings.
“We will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that this case reaches its logical conclusion,” he vowed.
Governor Yusuf, in his remarks, echoed the commitment to justice and pledged support for the affected families.
“We are working closely with my counterpart, Governor Okpebholo, to ensure that all those arrested are prosecuted,” Yusuf stated.
He further announced a relief package, including cash and food items, for the grieving families and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and compensation.
The tragic incident has sparked concerns over security and the activities of vigilante groups in the region. Authorities have promised thorough investigations to prevent future occurrences.
