The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) is set to introduce the Nigerian Public Sector Governance Code (NPSGC) to enhance trust, efficiency, and transparency while reducing corruption in the public sector.
Speaking at a stakeholder engagement in Abuja, FRCN Executive Secretary Dr. Rabiu Olowo described the Code as a framework to deepen accountability, values, and conduct within government institutions.
“The public sector should lead by example in culture and ethics. This document is designed to stand the test of time,” he stated.
Technical Working Group Chair Danladi Kifasi clarified that no law revision is required for the Code’s implementation, emphasizing that it serves as a guide rather than an instruction manual.
Vice Chair Muhammad Ahmed stressed that transparency and integrity are universal values that align with existing laws.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, hailed the Code as a milestone in strengthening governance. She linked it to the final year of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP 25), calling 2025 “the year of accomplishments.”
She noted that the NPSGC will play a crucial role in ensuring public institutions operate efficiently, transparently, and with accountability.
The FRCN urged Nigerians to review the draft Code and provide feedback as part of the consultation process.
