The Nigerian government has announced a significant change in its approach to minimum wage reviews. Instead of the previous five-year cycle, the government will now review the minimum wage every three years. Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, made this announcement in Abia State, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to Nigerian workers. The decision comes amid calls from the Trade Union Congress for yearly reviews to align with economic realities such as high inflation, which reached 34.60 percent in November 2024. Tinubu had previously approved a N70,000 minimum wage and pledged to revisit it every three years, responding to the ongoing economic challenges impacting wage adjustments.
