Mathias Pogba, brother of football star Paul Pogba, has been sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a blackmail scheme targeting the former Manchester United midfielder.
A Paris court handed down the verdict on Thursday, stipulating that Mathias, 34, will serve the remaining year under electronic monitoring instead of in jail.
The case dates back to 2022, when Mathias and others were accused of attempting to extort £11 million from Paul Pogba, 31, in exchange for “protection services” spanning 13 years.
Paul Pogba disclosed to authorities that the ordeal caused him significant distress, even leading him to consider retirement in 2023.
