NNPP Condemns Harassment of Kano Governor’s Spokesperson Dawakin-Tofa

-

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has denounced what it describes as persistent harassment and attempts to arrest Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson alleged that police authorities, acting on directives from Abuja, are attempting to detain Dawakin-Tofa despite a court injunction prohibiting such actions.

The party claimed the alleged arrest attempts stem from a petition linked to former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje or his associates. Dawakin-Tofa, currently in hiding, has reportedly taken precautions to avoid what the NNPP considers an unlawful arrest.

Johnson criticized the police’s actions as a violation of the rule of law, stating:
“The ongoing abuse of power and harassment of state government officials tarnish the image of law enforcement and create an unstable environment. Such actions are detrimental to attracting foreign investors and maintaining peace in Kano.”

The NNPP urged Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to prevent the police from descending into partisan politics and to ensure Dawakin-Tofa’s legal rights are upheld.
