The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has assured the ad-hoc staff who worked during the November 2, 2024 local government election that their entitlements will be paid soon. This statement comes amidst growing concerns over the delay in payments, more than a month after the election.
In a statement issued on Sunday evening, Afulike Don Christian, the Special Assistant to the ABSIEC Chairman on Communication, Planning, and Strategy, addressed rumors suggesting that the electoral body would not pay the workers for their services. Christian clarified that these claims were false and reassured the public that the Commission had finalized arrangements with its lead bank to transfer the payments to the concerned individuals in the coming hours.
ABSIEC further emphasized its commitment to paying every worker who is owed wages, stating that it operates under the “new Abia mantra,” which guarantees payment for work done. The Commission also urged the public to disregard those allegedly mobilizing protests due to the delay in payments, labeling them as mischief makers.
