Bello Turji, a notorious bandit leader, has issued violent threats following the arrest of his close associate, Bako Wurgi. Wurgi, a key lieutenant in Turji’s group, is known for his role in ransom negotiations and the collection of hostages. His arrest by Nigerian troops has angered Turji, who has made clear his intentions to retaliate.
Turji has reportedly reached out to influential figures in the Shinkafi area, including village heads and chiefs, warning them that he will attack their communities unless Wurgi is released. He has also expressed his willingness to use his resources, including people and livestock, to secure Wurgi’s freedom, even pledging to spend any amount necessary to achieve this.
Wurgi, also known as Baka NaGarba, is a well-known arms dealer and bandit leader. He is suspected of involvement in the murder of the Emir of Gobir, Alhaji Isa Mohammad Bawa, in Sokoto State. The arrest of Wurgi is seen as a significant blow to Turji’s network, which has sparked the ongoing threats of violence.
