Meta’s flagship apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, experienced a widespread outage that affected millions of users globally. The disruption left many users unable to load accounts or post content, with Downdetector reporting massive spikes in outage reports—over 71,000 for Instagram and more than 107,000 for Facebook.
The issue prompted users to flock to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm whether others were experiencing similar problems, with the hashtag #instagramdown trending. Meta responded to the disruption, acknowledging the technical issues and assuring users they were working to restore services. “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps,” Meta wrote, apologizing for the inconvenience. WhatsApp also confirmed issues but reported a return to normal for most users.
This outage follows previous disruptions, including a major interruption in March, leaving users awaiting updates on when full service will be restored.
