Nigeria’s National Grid Collapses for the 12th Time in 2024

-

Nigeria’s National Grid suffered another collapse on Wednesday, marking the 12th incident this year. The latest disruption occurred at approximately 2:09 pm, leaving many parts of the country in darkness.

This follows a troubling pattern, with the grid failing 11 times between January and now. In October alone, three collapses were recorded within a single week.

In a brief statement on its official Twitter account, the National Grid announced, “A major grid setback has occurred, and the restoration is to commence.”

Details regarding the cause of the collapse and the timeline for power restoration remain unclear as of now. Updates are expected to follow.

The recurring power outages have sparked concerns over the stability of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure, with calls for urgent reforms to address the grid’s reliability issues.
