Dr. George Moghalu, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, has pledged to address insecurity and rebuild public trust if elected as Anambra’s governor in 2025.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Moghalu attributed the high rate of insecurity in Anambra — including cult-related killings and kidnappings — to leadership failure and the erosion of citizens’ confidence in government.
According to him, “The primary role of government is the security of lives and property of the people. When it fails in this responsibility, the people lose confidence in their leaders.”
Moghalu, who also served as the National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasised that his candidacy is not driven by personal ambition but by a vision to serve the people and create positive change.
“My first responsibility is to restore the confidence of the people in their government because there is total loss of confidence now,” Moghalu said.
He added that the average citizen has grown skeptical of political solutions, but he is confident that he can shift this perception through effective governance and transparent leadership.
Moghalu expressed deep concerns about how insecurity is undermining Anambra’s economy. He stressed that measures must be implemented to confront these challenges head-on.
“You cannot talk about investments, foreign direct investments, in an insecure environment, because no sane person will come to invest in that kind of environment,” he noted.
Moghalu is positioning himself as an experienced, knowledgeable, and prepared candidate, aiming to tackle Anambra’s security issues while ensuring the state’s economic growth and stability.
The former managing director concluded by reaffirming his readiness to serve if elected by the people’s will and God’s guidance. His message underscores his commitment to bringing positive change and leadership to Anambra.
Anambra residents will likely watch his campaign closely as 2025 approaches, with hopes of a return to stability and economic opportunities for the state.
