Dangote Cement Plc has graduated 46 new solar energy installers and entrepreneurs as part of its ongoing commitment to socio-economic empowerment and sustainable development in Nigeria. The training, conducted in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), took place at Dangote Academy in Obajana.
The Plant Director, Azad Nawabuddin, highlighted that the program aligns with Dangote Group’s focus on youth empowerment and job creation, emphasizing its potential to address power supply challenges in Nigerian communities. Of the 46 graduates, 27 are men and 19 are women, with the training focusing on providing clean, renewable energy solutions.
The initiative aims to support the Nigerian government’s efforts in enhancing electricity access, particularly in communities like Obajana, Oyo, Iwaa, and Apata in Kogi State. Abdulrahman Wudilawa, ITF’s Training Manager, stressed the importance of solar energy as a growing sector, with Nigeria’s abundant sunlight serving as a key resource for the industry.
Dangote Cement’s Head of Social Performance, Wakeel Olayiwola, affirmed that these trained entrepreneurs will help contribute to Nigeria’s energy needs, ultimately boosting the nation’s renewable energy landscape while combating climate change.
