Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has called for a nationwide protest against the judiciary over the prosecution of human rights activist Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi, who was arrested by the Ekiti State Police for allegedly defaming Aare Afe Babalola SAN, the founder of Afe Babalola University, through his recently published book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System, is currently remanded in prison. His detention has sparked widespread public outcry, with many Nigerians demanding his immediate release.
Sowore announced that the protest will take place on December 10, with gatherings planned at various locations, including the Afe Babalola Chambers in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, the Police Headquarters in Ekiti, and Kings College Campus in London. Sowore invoked the famous quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” in urging Nigerians to join the protest.
